I don't even want to blame desperation! this just seems more like... utter thoughtlessness? (I'd rather think people are on autopilot vs actually thinking about this story and deciding 'yes we must cover that.')

twas ever thus: kneejerk reaction in newsrooms is to run with it - in this digital age, to post - because why miss out? more than that, i'd argue, it's all about avoiding the crap you'd take if you don't jump into the pool.
