G trains today: 1 minute 3 minutes 17 minutes away.
The trick is to get the 3 minute train so when your train inevitably stops moving, you have a seat because all the other people got on the 1 minute train.
I do this trick a lot. I use the app to keep a eye on when trains are coming. If a train looks even slightly crowded and there is another one coming in the next few minutes, I wait.
It broke down on me earlier this month -- I had waited for five different 7 trains to pass, all back to back, and the sixth, which I got on, was the one trapped under the east river for half an hour.
