The first time I saw a movie alone was the month I moved to D.C. in 2004 and was about to spend two years working and going to grad school full time simultaneously, and I had one precious free afternoon to see Open Water in Georgetown.
In summer 2008 I was still off on Wednesdays which meant I was the designated friend to get in line at the Uptown to see <a movie that we won't talk about>, and so I got there at like 2, and sat there with a bunch of weirdos until @LeoShane and others joined me for a 7pm show.
The summer before I moved to New York, also at the Uptown, I ran into my friend Jim at Inception opening day. He'd been there for a midnight show the night before but fell asleep because it was late. When he left the manager gave him a ticket to come back the next night.
That DuPont theater closed when CVS decided to build a CVS a block from that other CVS. That CVS is also closed now.
