It's totally a typical butter knife! My parents have multiple sets of silverware like that (from 1800-1900). Most modern cutlery sets don't understand soup spoons or dessert spoons either (both should be circular, not oval) and it's tragically lost knowledge.

Modern cutlery being crappy is one of my undying beefs I will never be able to make peace with.
