You know I love stories like this. And clearly they didn't kill local news. But at a certain point, if every outlet does the exact same stories, there's no difference between outlets and no reason to read any particular one. And there's an enormous opportunity cost.
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think if you're a general news site, you should have a glimmer of most of the things that are driving the conversations of the day. Do I think all the cup takes blend together? Yes. Do I get to decide who does them and who does not? No (alas).

Sure, but my issue is that everything acts like a general news site now, and when there's no differentiation, there's no reason for anyone to not just get their news from Facebook and Google.
