why, dear god, why, are these "records" not normalized for inflation and/or average ticket price? We all know a poorly-performing remake of Howard the Duck will pull in $2 billion on opening night in 60 years.

But then you also have to normalize for distribution models -- a smash in 1939 is a far different thing than a smash in 2019, and ticket prices are only one part.
