I completely agree with almost all of this — and the approach he discusses also led me to feel weirdly detached even from characters I care about. I’m shocked to see people tweeting about the number of times they cried. Never got anywhere close to that (and I’m a crier).

I've never been super great at keeping track of the characters on this show. This season I'm finding myself looking forward to a second watch on Monday or Tuesday nights to actually understand it all, after I've read a dozen essays

This wasn’t a lighting problem. It was a compression problem. If you’re watching on cable or streaming it’s been run through a sausage grinder before it’s gotten to you. The night is dark and full of shadows.
