This is clearly going to be the day I spend arguing this with everyone on Twitter, but: I buy Sam mourning even an abusive father, I don't buy him being angry and moved to vengeance. That felt like the show changing a character to serve the plot. YMMV!

I don't think it was vengeance so much as, "our sovereign can be my dear friend, a good, kind, heroic guy, who's the actual heir! Or this woman I just met who burns people alive who don't bend the knee. Like my family." I could see Sam getting worked up about that.

I think perhaps this doesn't rate, and correct me if I am wrong, but "in the books," Randall is even worse and his mistreatment of Sam, more evident. My first reaction was Sam should have been thrilled, but that's perhaps the 2 storytellings converging w/ unintended consequences
