there are several (too many?) bars that I frequent, and there's really nothing quite like a bartender who knows you. a weird thing that's happened recently at one of my bars is that a new bartender has taken over the sunday afternoon shift, and her regulars are a very specific type that is not at all the type that used to frequent this bar, and I'm going there less.
