I’m absolutely sure it’s great - but not all promotional streams are equal. Alerting on features very often leads to bounce.
Page views in a huge spike can be deeply seductive. But you can be driving engagement down. Time spent is everything in this case, especially because word count is high. Telling people they have to read a 3,000 word piece right now generally isn’t as productive as at first glance
Quite possibly, but not always and not for every provider. In any case that’s not point you made in your original tweet that Erin and I called you out for!
I think you misinterpreted me as being sniffy about the Kardashians or something. But my point is about delivery method and true impact. You know my experience in data and approach. I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions. But surprisingly few look at time spent and alerts
No not that! You suggested that all alerts should meet the definition of ‘urgent notice’. But other types of alerts are available! (And valued)
I think life would be absolutely better if that were true and that news organisations should look more carefully at time spent on alerts rather than being seduced by page views spikes. I don’t think me having that opinion with some data expertise required ‘calling out’

Totally - but even then it’s not just a user experience issue. I’m most interested in the established assumption that it’s a decent delivery method for anything rather than something best used very specifically. The data is often really challenging here
