No not that! You suggested that all alerts should meet the definition of ‘urgent notice’. But other types of alerts are available! (And valued)
<wakes up> hello! Two small points: 1) I only have the orgs I subscribe to as a basis, but I do think this is an area where US/UK models diverged a while ago. And 2) chris, you're making an assumption about pageview thirst as a driver that may skip a few steps.

Hello! 1) Yep! 2) Yes and no - I obviously worry about that kind of assumption a lot myself. But the reason I worry here is how few orgs actively look at attn time on alerts and how particularly seductive they can appear in analytics tools.

I think one thing you and I can agree on is that pageviews are a crap metric of a lot of things and newsrooms' over reliance on them can be (and has been) a distraction from more important (and difficult) questions.
