in *extremely rare* situations you may find a scenario where it makes sense to work for free. (I did, briefly, at a magazine in my home town because there were no jobs anywhere, and I didn't want to sit at home. Even United Way turned me down for a volunteer gig then.)

Seriously. Haven’t we been over the idea that unpaid internships only benefit wealthy students who don’t need to be paid? And students who need to work in order to pay for tuition, food, rent, etc. can’t exactly afford to work for free?

I really hope this part of a larger sea change, making it socially unacceptable to offer unpaid internships. It needs to be, for so many reasons.
