@katieglueck @McClatchyDC First- the whole point digital is to build empowers through small donations and volunteering

Running a split campaign does many things better than just writing check

first, you raise that $$$$

then the campaign you are raising for gets those email addresses to work into the program

and given that Jones used the awful Mothership company they were extra generous

since that meant folks who got on jones list probably hated email by end of the race

and finally the split donations build up power amongst your members

even your members who don't or can't donate feel connected to the greater movement

Trust me, it wasn't the folks at Mothership who raised the money for Jones

it was all the places like DNC and all the electeds who threw in a split that built his $$$

plus a split is ethical. It's not gross like a sketchy list rental

the other thing on a split is that the donor doesn't have to give to both. They can

choose to only to give to one and to change amounts

I would love to know the total after donation donations to Jones from the dnc members

it probably means the $700k is really a low ball.

Tom should be applauded for opening up the DNC list to fight in Alabama and not derided

What matters though is that working together, Jones won. Oh and guess what

Jones still has those email address he can effective organize for future battle. #winning
