This is really annoying. But now many new bicycle have a thick plexiglass on the QR code, which is much better.

Sadly, in my experience the plexiglass is only held in place by 4 security torx screws, that you can order a sgrewdriver for on the cheap. It raises the bar for entry, but not by much, and in the end the plexi makes it look even more legit.
