I don't see why you would renounce your awards _now_. Start a new award that seeks balance and a more balanced voting process and just make a clean break. Renouncing _now_ seems a bit...late?

Does renouncing an award entail giving the money awarded back or donating it elsewhere? Or is it more of a moral statement, e.g. choosing not to include it on a website, CV, etc?

The award had no money - at least when I got it - just a plaque.

If we're blaming the award for a gender bias, we're blaming ourselves. The award laureate is chosen by the community ... us!

Clearly you do not get it - there are 100s to 1000s of studies of how explicit and implicit bias affect processes and that you refuse to change the process to deal with that shows the Ben Franklin award should just be terminated

Totally behind this. Margret Dayhoff award is perfectly pitched! I think should go to BioIT as well, and Margret Dayhoff award should have a process that it is more likely to award to diverse candidates (I can think of plenty).

Isn’t this award decided by voting on nominated candidates? Wouldn’t a better move be if all past male members nominate a woman? To change this level of bias you would have to apparently discontinue the entire Bioinformatics field...
