if we’re doling out calls for respect I’d like to see some respect for the parents who just don’t want their kids to die of a preventable disease because parents at the local Waldorf School think the measles isn’t so bad

Ah, yes, what a wild concept - people should be respected. No one is saying to respect their decision to not vaccinate. But it means if we treat people as people who are scared and concerned, we have a better chance at reaching them than if we insult and degrade them.

but - and I say this in all seriousness - I’m not trying to be glib - what if the right way to increase vaccine rates isn’t to respect the anti-vaccine position, to not give it any oxygen, but to simply ignore it and mandate vaccination
