    Any sufficiently large system is going to experience "mystery crashes" like this. We often see "can't happen" errors in JavaScript that seem to result from uncorrected bit-flips on end-user browsers.

    is mmap-in-place still > serial I/O in cases where not everything fits in RAM/bufcache, w/random access patterns?
