so cool man, what would it do if you showed it a picture of an actual "old master" painting?

It will probably overheat :-) - nah, it will work pretty well. But at least from what I can see in the training examples it will not reproduce exactly the same painting but some other face, maybe even in a different lighting or gender.

Does it work on 3D input ?

If it looks remotely like a face, I guess yes.

I wonder if the model could somehow integrate Apples TrueDepth camera. I’m sure there isn’t much exposed via API tho..

It would have to either estimate a 3D face from a 2D painting to generate the training data, or one would have to train an intermediate model that tries to infer 3D from 2D using the TrueDepth data.
