I had lunch with the with , who ruminated on the potential for Putin’s downfall and the pressures of being his top opponent - while a Kremlin troll harassed us for the entire interview

This is just one of many repressive laws the Duma is passing with unprecedented haste. The most gruesome introduces a five-year prison sentence for “slanderous accusations of sexual violence.”

A day after pranked an apparent FSB agent into revealing the details of his poisoning, Russia rushed to pass a law that would ban disclosing data about the security services – thereby banning the very investigations that exposed them.

The FSB claims Navalny's prank call with one of his poisoners is fake. Shows you how much this rattles their nerves that they even replied

I once had a chat with Navalny about how Burn after Reading was his favorite movie, but I don't think either of us thought he would ever star in the real-life version

Just astonishing. called up one of the FSB agents who Putin admitted tracked him, pretended to be an assistant to the head of Russia's security council, and extracted a 49-minute confession that they poisoned him. Unreal.

Today is Secret Services Worker Day in Russia. Sure, the FSB has secret hit squads with expertise in chemical weapons, but did you know it also has its own ballet?

Imagine being one of the seven Russian reporters who spent two weeks locked in a hotel room waiting for the chance to possibly ask Putin a question, and then got sent home anyway because of dodgy Covid tests

Putin admitted that Russian secret agents follow Navalny’s every move, and laughed about it. “Who needs him? If they wanted [to poison him], they would probably have finished the job.”

Putin still won't mention Navalny by name but isn't really trying to find an excuse for why he wound up in a coma. "If they really wanted to poison him, they'd have finished the job."

Putin says Bellingcat's investigation into Navalny's poisoning is "a way to legalize material from western secret services" and claims that "the Berlin patient" is supported by the CIA. This seems to be a tacit acknowledgement that the info about the FSB tracking him is legit.

Putin asked about recent investigations into his family. He says they were so badly written he couldn’t even read them to the end, but there’s nothing against his relatives holding assets overseas and buying a $380m stake in Sibur for $100.

Putin takes a question from foul-mouthed singer Sergei Shnurov, who is here for some reason, about why “Russian hackers didn’t help Trump get re-elected.” This is a provokatsiya, says Putin – Russian hackers never helped Trump at all! He hopes Biden will help smooth things over.

Putin is mostly fielding questions about the rough economic situation and spiraling coronavirus epidemic. But this all appears to be part of a script – one “volunteer” who asked him a question was on his call-in two years ago
