Interesting exploration on what the future of digital conversation could look like. And I keep thinking about the application of these ideas for writing code.https://twitter.com/maxkriegers/status/1259168597429096450 …

🗨️ can we augment our online chats with new affordances? 🧠 what does a conversational medium that supports *thinking* look like? 🔀 Is there a pathway from the linear, one-dimensional, immutable logs we call "online conversation"? I made a comic! http://a9.io/glue-comic/

yes! I mentioned REPLs/notebooks a tiny bit at the end. You should check out https://www.unisonweb.org/ , it's a very dialectic/immutable approach to writing software cc @pchiusano @Conaw

Yeah, I'm aware of the ideas behind unison and quite intrigued, although I haven't tried it yet. But even without content addressable code (and bidirectional links), what would it look like to apply modern text interfaces to code editors? We barely started with collaboration!

Fructure https://github.com/disconcision/fructure … is a great place to start @disconcision Also https://hazel.org/  has every "conversational interaction" formally verified @neurocy I know collaboration is on the distant roadmap for the latter

See also the work @tylerangert and others at http://repl.it  are doing on CLUI. And, more obliquely, UX in proof assistants. The future in this space is the convergence between UI for person-to-person collaboration and conversational interaction with checkers and steppers

Aside: Self's morphic environment had real-time 2d collaboration a la figma 25 years ago and I want it to be resurrected in WASM+Sockets soooo badly. The way faceless rectangle "morphs" get hewn away into a program 😍😍https://youtu.be/Ox5P7QyL774

Whatever is new today, PARC already did jt 😄 I enjoyed fructure's ideas but as a AAA game developer, functional languages are hopeless (perf). So have to wait for the ideas to go to other languages. What are checkers and steppers?

Specifically, type-directed editing (arguing with the checker) & algebraic stepping (letting an interpreter monologue at you) but more generally, any static or dynamic analysis castable to embodied collaborative ui. For something more practical, for sure check out @jetbrains_mps
