Reading through The Timeless Way of Building, wondering why so many programmers have been enamored with the pattern languages idea(which is cool), and not the larger goal behind it of creating spaces for people that are life-giving.

And with such an anemic, low-level, drab presentation of pattern languages—the GoF implementation patterns, so utterly unlike the humane, anthropological, deeply beautiful patterns in “A Pattern Language.”

+++++1—Repurposing Alexander's ontology for software design has given a far more sterile, cleanroom-borne end product. Similarly, a DVD chapter selection screen is hardly as elegant or momentous as a play's Act/Scene distinctions, even if both are useful.
