    revisited a favorite paper today: on “computational caricatures”, or computational design research prototypes that deliberately oversimplify the processes they model as a way to make arguments about which bits of those processes are interesting

    and here’s the script I wrote to do the reformatting. it uses regexps to parse an incredibly specific subset of LaTeX & BibTeX, contains a bunch of hard-coded knowledge about how I personally format papers, & is generally a crime against computer science

    turns out it's actually kind of a logical extension to go from the kind of free-text input you see in parser interactive fiction to something more like a crafting interface for speech acts. some of our preliminary work in that direction should be coming out later this year
