I couldn’t agree more. I was a main tank in raids from vanilla until this raid tier then went dps because it was just too boring. Especially on dks. I did a pally tank this xpac simply because it was more challenging but even that still felt way too easy.

You made a good choice with pally. Pally has so much more raid utility than any tank. Hand of the protector is broken for progression. You just didn’t see them a lot on the top end because the whole expansion before this tier they had this weird breakpoint of 1/1

Which is making it harder for me to want to continue playing after many years, because it's the role that keeps me around honestly. :(

Around MOP/WOD you wanted at least one of your tanks to be among the best players in your guild. As time goes by I think the right decision may be having those players DPS and get by with whatever tanks you can. Speaking of high end progression of course.

Tanks hit a high mark in MoP (too high, frankly, but I loved it) in terms of controlling their own destiny. Every expansion since has been an endeavor towards removing power/control from tanks and slowing them down. That runs counter to fun, at least for me.

I will say this expansion I feel completely in control on every single tank to some extent and obviously some more than others. It is at the current moment a tanks fault(and not the healers) at least 95%+ of the time when a tank dies. But we may see that number diminsh in BFA.
