That's how I see it too. It's trying to stop you guys, arguably the most creative minds going in the game, from finding ways to get an edge but all it really does is hurt people who aren't anywhere near that level.
A lot of people saying this is to “reduce split runs” I wonder how many it affects though. Blizzard must have realized at this point we’re just going to find a way to do them. I haven't cared about raiding in years. M+ has always been the go-to for me to hang out and play with my friends and run higher stuff. Raiding has only had the purpose of gearing to run higher m+ for a lot of us, and now it's more mandatory. Not a fan.

Yes, eventually I'll have full mythic level gear from weekly chest, but it's going to take much longer for seemingly no reason for me to really get into the content I want to play.

Every update i see is just reducing players enjoyment of the game and making the game more frustrating to all aspects.. (Raiders, pvp, and now m+).. This is bad man.. this is real real bad

All this does is stop the split runs the first few weeks. After that when people are heroic gear it becomes free to trade.

With how easy it is to level new toons, split runs will still happen! Just not the way it happened in previous raid tiers

I think this hurts the casual / slower paced player base way more. I liked the ilvl of M+ >= HC model. The incentive to raid heroic is trinkets etc... and M+ bolsters your ilvl and offers different stat weights on gear. This change is just straight up aids.
