I think just enough people thought it wasn’t Tarantino’s best - the languorous pacing and editing problems and ending problems and woman problems and... and.... and.... combined with the fact that Tarantino has already won meant that people felt okay voting elsewhere.

That surprised me less because I kept hearing from almost everyone I talked to off twitter that either they “respected but didn’t love it” or actively didn’t like it. I knew it was divisive

Summer release might of killed steam. Tarantino's MeToo controversies didn't help. Or the controversy with Bruce Lee's family.

But it seemed to have bounced back from those by December. Most of that seemed to peak in July around the release and then it smooth sailed through the critics awards and guild noms

People just seemed to have issues with the film. -Long Run time -No Passion -Not a film for the Time we are living in -Not a lot of support from newer audiences
