Earlier today, the D.C. Board of Ethics and Government Accountability posted meeting minutes in which they said an investigation into Councilmember Jack Evans has been stayed because of a “pending criminal investigation.” (Cont.)

Needless to say, this is essentially what some people had guessed was happening when BEGA’s investigation was stayed in the fall: some law enforcement agency is also looking at Evans over allegations of self-dealing with regards to a digital sign company.

I will say much of this confusion could have been averted had BEGA posted the audio of its meeting, as it used to do. But I was told today by a staffer that since the law doesn’t require it, they have stopped posting the audio.

What to make of all of this? There is some law enforcement agency, likely federal, looking at Evans and his dealing with the digital sign company. The Post had a good report on this last month: https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/local/dc-politics/dc-council-member-jack-evans-received-shares-of-stock-just-before-pushing-legislation-that-would-benefit-company/2018/12/20/b2a3b320-ffc8-11e8-83c0-b06139e540e5_story.html …

Will anything come of the investigation into Evans? Who knows. I called around to some federal agencies today, but not a whole lot of people around to take calls. (One federal official took my call but said they could not answer questions because of the shutdown.)
