Everyday on Twitter I see very smart people saying that new idea Y is really just old idea X. That it's only new packaging. Sometimes that's true. But: 1/8

The field is already self-correcting. Good departments/labs are clearing their eyes, caring less about paper count, seeing through the noise. Don't worry so much about the ICML deadline. Slow down, relax, try to do work you're proud of, submit when it's ready.

It really puts a smile on my face to see that this was written in the preface of a STEM-related book in 1985. Well done Prof. Morris H. DeGroot! (Probability and Statistics, 2nd Edition)

Recently I asked about non-obvious arguments for teaching recursion. Found an old paper comparing comprehension of programs using recursion vs. iter. Somewhat surprising:"There was a faster rate of comprehension of the recursive code [vs iterative code]"
