A big part of it is the final season of THE AMERICANS' willingness, in this final run, to do a lot of montages where there's little dialogue and we're just watching characters do things, or think. This is a pretty talky show, but they've always brought the heat, montage-wise. 1/2

But they're really kicked it up a notch this time out. The spectacle of people not saying anything, and specifically of not talking to each other when they could, seems to be of paramount importance. It creates tremendous unease.

I'm so happy as I found S5 a bit of a slog, but I had loved the show so deeply before that that I will keep watching no matter what!

One great thing about the Americans: The creators of the show DO know where they’re going with it. They have for years. This show is as much a carefully crafted novel as it is a “tv series”.

If I've missed the last couple seasons, is it reasonable to re-start with this season or should I catch up?
-
Definitely catch up first!
