Tron also won me over because it posits the existence of an alternate dimension, and once the main character is in it, he stays there. We don’t constantly cut back to people in “the real world“ explaining everything that’s happening.

The Tron world seems to operate by its own internal logic, like the Matrix, Oz, or the world in Yellow Submarine. People don’t behave in a “normal“ way, either, and that appeals to me.

I completely understand that people would say the film is “slow“ and “lacks character development“ etc, many of the greatest science fiction films are slow and lack character development. It’s more about visionary splendor and tactile details.

Forbidden Planet, Blade Runner, Zardoz, Metropolis and 2001 are all like that as well, to varying degrees. And I was struck by the visual similarity to tinted B&W silent films, as in these images. Analog processes are used to produce otherworldly FX.pic.twitter.com/auNT1yj3MB

When, in college, I found out Roger Ebert gave Tron 4 stars, I was initially taken aback. (Really?) But now I understand why he did it. It is a visionary movie. Pointed the way to the future. Roger recognized milestones.https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/tron-1982 …

I don't think you're completely stoned. It's good. But the sequel is better.

I have never made it through the entire film. I have tried. Many times. I believe I am destined to not know Tron.

I have made it through twice. Both times it was in a theater and both times I just felt two hours older and 5/15 bucks poorer.
