I interviewed PSH in 2004 at a hotel on Central Park South. Up front he told me he was on edge because he'd quit smoking. After 30 minutes of staring at the pack in my shirt pocket he asked for one. I gave him 2 and lit his. He inhaled and said, dramatically, "AhhHHHHHHH!"

I should do a book about every celebrity who has bummed a cigarette from me. There are a lot.

Yeah, weirdly -- Patch Adams. He's supposed to be the bad guy in that, but the entire time you're rooting for him because he's the only character in the film with a moral center who cares about the proper way to do things.

I'm sure I read this seven (!) years ago but now My Funny Valentine will forever be associated with Philip Seymour Hoffman. Dammit.

This is an achingly beautiful tribute. I’ve watched so many of his films during the pandemic, like “The Master” “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Before the Devil Knows Your Dead.” He’s helped get me through this. I wish he was still with us.

Hoffman was a great movie actor, a great theatrical actor, and a great theatrical director. I was privileged to see him shine in all of these roles multiple times.

The enormity of his loss is felt even when I'm watching him in silly movies that I love, like Twister. He was charisma personified. I love Boogie Nights but I find it so hard to watch mostly because of Scotty. That performance is so painfully beautiful.
