The best way to support my dad Dave Zoller is by purchasing his music. It is available for download through Apple and Amazon, and you can also buy signed CDs and vinyl albums here. All proceeds go to him and his partner Liz. https://mzsworldstore.com/collections/all pic.twitter.com/5zD2u5d9jg

Dad is not doing too well physically generally — he has basically lost the use of his legs and is having major digestive issues and has lost a lot of weight. So I’m trying to enjoy whatever time we have left here.

He’s doing one more interview for the film, however, with several of his bandmates, via zoom, and later on some other friends are going to come over and play together in the living room. I don’t think he will join them, he mainly just watches these days.

My father died about 9:40 AM central time in Dallas. The entire process took about five minutes. It was about as peaceful as something like this can be. I saw the life pass from his body. Like switching off a car.

Scroll up in this thread for an account of the final months of his life. They were incredibly productive. Dave Zoller recorded the one album he was afraid he wouldn’t get to record. He got to spend time with his friends and family. He was a blessed, kind, brilliant man.

My father gave me his favorite watch before he died. I feel like I’ve been handed a legacy. Time defined his life and art. Keeping time in music; finding time for the people you love, and for enjoyment. Thinking about how much time you have left, and what you want to do with it.pic.twitter.com/G4kE9XZaOo

Another thing I just realized: not even once in my life did my father ever express anything but enthusiastic support for any creative project I was involved in. In stark contrast to his own father, who kept pestering him to get a real job until Dad was well into his fifties.

The first full day without my dad comes to an end. The most striking thing about the house is that I don’t feel his presence here. I am pretty attuned to that kind of thing. I think maybe he was eager to move on to whatever was next.

Liz was in the living room at the time. It definitely didn’t come from outside. It sounded like the way a dad would wake somebody up when he was annoyed. I think he *was* annoyed, he was probably playing with Charles Mingus and had to interrupt himself. 2/2
