2. My stepdaughter, a teenager who's trans and currently getting lupron injections, wanted to get estrogen shots, and her therapist of two years needs to write a letter in support of it. As far as I know, she does support it. The problem is:

3. My wife made an appointment to get the shot this Friday and contacted the therapist over a month ago to ask her to write the letter. The therapist didn't respond. Multiple texts (she doesn't accept phone calls), two emails through her web site. The date is drawing near.

4. Therapist texted my wife back two days ago saying she'd write the letter by today, sounding fully supportive and giving no indication of second thoughts, issues, anything. But she didn't turn in the letter today and has not responded to multiple texts.

5. Short of going by the therapist's office and sitting in the waiting room (which feels kind of stalker-y; neither of us really think it's appropriate) I don't know what to do. If we don't get the letter, we have to cancel the appointment. And furthermore...

6. ...we would have to start over again with a new therapist, who would have to get to know our daughter, decide whether or not to recommend estrogen, etc, and we have no idea (1) if they'd be on board (hopefully they would!) and (2) how long that process could take.

7. If we have to cancel this appointment, our child will be devastated. This is really not the kind of thing that any teen, but particularly a trans teen, should have to endure. It doesn't really matter why the therapist is not responding. It's the result that matters. It's bad.

8. If you were in this situation, what would you do? We thought about calling the hospital that referred us in the first place and asking them to call on our behalf. Is it too early to complain to a government agency? Would that only antagonize the therapist? I don't know.

9. Anyway, if you want to reach out privately via DM let me know; if I don't already follow you, of course I'll remedy that immediately. Open to any and all reasonable ideas for how to solve this problem.

10. RESOLUTION! My wife
@cincinnancy drove to the therapist's office and texted to say that she wanted a meeting. After 90 minutes, the therapist emailed the letter. So we're good now, though still resentful that we had to go through this. Thank you all for your advice!Show this thread

I would reach out to the therapist again and remind them about the letter
