This Biden line is good. Democrats need to work on heuristics to get young, college educated staffers to recall that the electorate is much older and more working class than they are and communicate accordingly. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/16/us/politics/biden-administration-executive-action-legislation.html#click=https://t.co/bHCEkLKU1p …pic.twitter.com/h462xz6N4U

But the point of the heuristic needs to be more explicit — whether or not "your mother" is a good reference point depends on who your mother is. The point is to think of someone you like and respect but who has less formal education and doesn't follow politics very closely.

The going theory for those in communication is to write at 8th grade level. Trump communications aimed far lower and were successful.

Very true. They honestly need a translator. Someone who can simplify some of this stuff into basic themes that resonate with people. And a take away from Trump admin is repeat, repeat, repeat because that message sinks in when folks hear it non-stop.

Take away from the GOP that is. The GOP has labels like Socialist, Communist etc, while Dems try to reason. Soundbites work unfortunately. Dems still haven't used them well.

I have a college degree and I had to look up heuristics. I guess that was your point?

Part of it. Indicates that a movement with the slogan "Better heuristics!" Would have troubles.

I think it is time that NYT gives free subscriptions to those need to read it most but can't afford to. That is called educating.

Or they could stop hiring staff from the ivy league for a few decades and see how that goes, could not possibly be any worse
