    Back when i was OZY's lead (only) sports writer, I tailed Samir to some meetings with top execs at NHL, NBA, MLB. We were trying to build relationships, and this dude thought the best plan of action was to lie straight to Mike Bass' face. Wild times.

    OZY should cease to exist. But the journalism — by some of the smartest, most ethical, hardworking reporters I've met under intense pressure — should live on. Here is some of it, in case you aren't one of the thousands of people (or millions of bots) that read us.

    I hope the journo world embraces the reporters and editors who pulled off this strong work the same way it has others who have been part of mismanaged or now-defunct newsrooms. The work was real, even if trendy media types didn't see it in the moment.

    In honor of at West Point today, recycling one of my favorite stories that I've done. Last season, days before they took Michigan to OT, I spent a few days learning what life is like for cadets.
