Was going back through some comments on my videos earlier and found this gem. Great advice. JP subs are fine when you first start off but don't end up relying on them. pic.twitter.com/GdwjcttKEH

When would be a good time to drop subtitles, do you think?

It's fine to watch with subs, as long as you think of it as reading practice, not listening practice. At least half of your active immersion should be listening practice, so you should be watching without subs from day 1

Thanks man. Do you have any tips for staying motivated during the RTK stages too? I've been at it for just over a month and it's definitely starting to get unmotivating

Go open up a Japanese book and look how many characters you can now recognize. Go read AJATT articles. Go remember why you want to learn Japanese.

also, start listening to podcasts in Japanese. That's when the training wheels really come off.

The podcast app I use lets me filter by language and gave plenty of options. I've found that a geography and tech podcast hold my interest enough that I keep listening to them.

Podkicker... but I'm pretty sure other podcast apps have the same kind of features.
