    David Fincher has an overcited quote I’ll continue to overcite: “people will say ‘there are a million ways to shoot a scene’ but I don’t think so. I think there’re two, maybe. And the other one is wrong.” I don’t fully agree with the numbers, but I do agree with the sentiment.

    A recent example for me is Detective Pikachu. If you put a gun to my head, I could not have found a way in to the premise of “pikachu, but a detective.” That idea: Pikachu talks and only one person can understand him. Man. I was jealous the day the trailer came out. So good.

    A thing I love about writing is that for any piece of IP, character, or idea, there are hundreds of ways to do it poorly, but even the lamest thing on earth can be turned on it’s head and rock socks if you can find right way in and use it to tell the truth.

    This and The Man Who Killed Batman always really stood out to me as such fun ways to approach both Bat and the villains from a new point of view — show how dangerous it is to be a normal person living in Gotham. I love them. Wouldn’t dare get into favorites.
