Plenty of sun to recharge the battery since 11am. 😀

It’s quite addictive watching the sun power the house and charge the battery for later.

Well, it took a while to get here but we’re finally able to use our solar and battery system.

20 days since fitted our inverter and battery but couldn't commission as the panels are not producing voltage. Multiple phone calls, lots of broken promises and still no idea if/when they are going to come and fix.
When do you think they will be fixed?
When you make a selection it cannot be changed

As I was saying last week…
Although $42 (meaning of life 😂) isn’t too bad for the potential.

MILF Manor? No thanks. We need a show called Dad Island. No sex stuff or anything. Just ten dads on an island getting to know each other. It doesn't even have to be on an island

It is actually getting harder and harder to buy from Amazon for this very reason.

Amazon should have a button to filter out all the cheap tacky knock off imports from your product search. Some of us aren't looking for £1.99 wireless headphones from GRONSHOO that explode on contact with oxygen.

Booked solar panels + battery installation in July '22. In Sept we had the panels go up, but no battery stock so cables left in loft.
Jan 4th, had the battery+inverter fitted, but no DC from panels
Today someone is meant to come and check the roof and commission
Not optimistic

Crazy we've had panels on the roof for nearly 5 months yet not been able to make use yet.

It's been a long slog getting this far with the need for multiple phone calls and generally being a nuisance to get anything done.
Taken 2 week to get an appt for someone to come back to try and finish installation from when the battery went in.

Today is known as ‘Quitters Day’
It’s the day you’re most likely to give up those new year resolutions.
On the 10q pod yesterday chatting to , we talked a bit about the importance and power of 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.
Keep going, stay strong, you’ve got this! 💪

I feel bad for the Twitter engineers currently trying to figure out how to change all their systems to account for basic HTML formatting in tweets and ensure there are no XSS issues.

Hey Twitter.
My nephew is looking for a laptop for game development, likely Unity. Any advice on specs or models to look at gratefully received?
Budget around £900. Reconditioned units consisted but has to be a laptop.
Thanks!

Bonus memory: Amiga Format's publisher Future Publishing were days away from using Ikonboard for all their magazine communities, but the sale to Jarvis spooked them and they used another forum product.

It was reviewed in Feb '97 but I would have probably coded it during summer '96 and posted the floppy disk in late '96 given print deadlines and having to actually post things.
Great memories.

Amiga Format in February 1997 reviewed my first every product: Busting Bricks
I recently bought a DVD with scans of every AF issue and loved seeing this again
It took about a month to code this up in AMOS, with the design and coding for each of the 25? levels taking the longest

My TV goes blank with the message "To turn the screen back on, press any button except the power button".
I don't need to look at the change log to know "except the power button" was added after the first version was released.

Completely agree. At we are largely remote but use weekly Zoom meetings to stay connected as colleagues and people. We also aim to have multiple in-person meet-ups throughout the year.
Cancelling all meetings is bizarre.

An excellent series of tweets on community as a profession.

HOT TAKE I don’t think the community industry has been thriving.
It’s been around for a hot minute, but the way in which businesses understand and use it is nascent.
The way I see it, we’re standing at a point in history like digital marketers were in 2008.

AMOS on the Amiga is where I really caught the coding bug. I wrote an entire brick buster clone back in the early 90s and released it to public domain. It was also featured in Amiga Format. Happy times!
Emulation is time travelling.

It's incredible that games are still being written and released (including full box/disk releases) for the Amiga; a computer made between 1985 and 1994.

Agree. A total rewrite is almost never the answer for a mature product. Migrating to newer tech takes time and be completed piece by piece.
Speaking from the experience of totally rewriting a platform. Budget: 6 months. Reality: 18 months.

Suggesting a rewrite of the entire software stack of an operational business is something you suggest if and only if you have money to burn, if time is irrelevant to you, and if you are deeply, profoundly bad at running a software-intensive project at global elastic scale. twitter.com/pwnsdx/status/…
