I realize that I could generate better numbers by including photos & videos--memes and trickery. I've experimented w/ that. But that's not my core deliverable. If I write something and only 328 people even SEE IT, then what's the point of investing in growing my FB following???

Let's say I wanted to expand my ability to communicate w/ my readers and listeners. I could invest in growing an email list/newsletter. I could invest more time in Twitter. There are a lot of options. But--as it currently stands--why would I EVER spend time and money on Facebook?

All authors are having this right now. Facebook won't even show our content to people who have specifically followed us and asked to see this content. Followers are saying "Show me things from this author" and Facebook is like 'How about a Nazi meme from your cousin instead?'

Matt, of late it has been horrific. I have 123K and I saw a post reach 89 people. It’s just insane.

Yep.
@IPI has 47,000 likes on Facebook, but this post reached only 621 of them.pic.twitter.com/EmuB630ayV

Only 328 saw it because you didn't pay Facebook to promote it.
-
That's how it works! When people "like" you at first they'll see your stuff most of the time. Later on, less and less. FB wants you to pay to promote your stuff. Writers are better off with blogs.

Facebook is a waste of time for content/business. It'll be MySpace 2.0 soon.

I have the same issues. I actually have reverted back to using a website and doing newsletters. Nothing is as timely, but I can at least see it is working. How soon until we just push things to instagram?
-
instagram is working in a similar way as fb. it shows you first not the most recent post but first post by people you liked the most and then everyone else. Sometimes you have to go look up your friends profiles and like their pictures for them to come back to your feed.
-
Mine actually has not reverted to that for some reason. I have no idea why.
-
hmm that's interesting. They are to update it againhttps://www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/features/a19566775/instagram-chronological-order-feed-details/ …

And
@brianstelter if I boost a post it will get traction but if I don’t it won’t. So what is the point of a following if you are weeded out if you don’t pay? If you rely on fb, Tw, YouTube you are at the mercy of their ever-changing algorithms and business models.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I totally agree. Years ago, it wasn't this bad but it has progressively gotten worse. We've tried "Boost Post", but it's very expensive and have since stopped even doing that. Gary.

That was my problem too. I had deleted my personal pages a long time ago. Now my Photography page is coming down because of this. It isn't worth the time to upload.
