This is very consistent how many Christians view being in this world, but not of this world. The “if it feels good, do it” mentally is ultimately pernicious. But the reason bowing to our carnal desires “feels good” is that uncivil behavior is natural. We are “born to be wild”

And so, at the micro level, the individual who wants to transcend his animal nature must fight against natural desires. Likewise, the civilization that wants to preserve freedom of the individual is always swimming upstream.

The fact that tribalism is on the rise is perfectly natural. Of course, disease is natural. Exploitation is natural. Poverty is natural. We must fight to preserve the Miracle that is America. This is my takeaway from the book—and it is an important insight.

We've preserved it for this long because all sides have previously respected the institutions and rule of law. Not so for the GOP now, thanks to enablers and Vichy puppets.

Tribalism is primitive , albeit natural the the lowest level of evolution ! It's insecurity !

What individual ever preserved a culture or defended themselves from foreign invasion? Radical individualism is nothing more than self imposed suicide of a people.

So in effect, I agree with you. But probably not from the same vantage point. The supposed melting pot of America has worked decently well. It helps to have vast oceans separating us from everyone else, though. And as of late it’s fracturing.

By liberal democracy, I assume you mean European style? To your point, those were only free and prosperous because of extremely homogeneous populations. Japan is another example. The more diverse a population gets, the more heavy handed the govts need to be. Look at Yugoslavia.
