the Never Trump Republican cohort made endless excuses a decade-plus ago for Bush 43 and all they got was a catastrophic war in Iraq and bank bailouts...Not sure Trump can possibly exceed this stupidity

The question was the opposite for 43. Were you willing to overlook massive policy blunders and outright deviations from conservatism just because the guy was faithful to his wife, never attacked his critics, and came from WASP royalty? Turns out a lot were.
-
Bush Republicans,
@NicolleDWallace,@MJGerson etc, are only willing to be a Republicans as long as Republicans look and sound like John McCain and George W. Bush (minus his historical opposition to same-sex marriage). Absent that, they're happy to be Centrist Democrats.

Since when did despoiling the environment and abetting large corporations become a "policy goal"?
-
Since the 1930s when the DuPonts formed the Liberty League, the ideological ancestor of Trump’s
@gop?

I'd say its analogous, but the flaws, jobs, rhetoric and competence are sufficiently different that it's at least two different kinds of apples, if not apples and oranges.

But as Matt Yglesias points out, there should be plenty of ethical GOP politicians willing to carry out the same policy goals, so why keep Pruitt around?
-
Name 1 the Senate will confirm in 2018. We have vacant Ambassador positions.

How did Pruitt get confirmed?

Character flaws is what we are calling it now?
-
Apparently “character flaws” is what they call it now. In the old days (well, 2 Yrs ago), we used to call it “Fraud, Waste, & Abuse” (criminal activity which people go to prison for).

I don't understand how what Pruitt is doing at the EPA aligns w/Christianity. I get the GOP believes regulation is bad, but that's political & misguided. The EPA's purpose is about protecting human life by protecting the environment in which humans live. I also don't get why 1/

a man who is utterly wicked with his tongue daily is considered to be changed b/c he is pushing an anti-abortion agenda & hasn't been caught having an affair lately. Why is being anti-abortion more "Christian" than speaking kind words & being honest? And then there's the fact 1/
-
that using the govt to force ppl to act in line w/Christian ideology negates the fundamental tenet of Christianity - the free choice of accepting Christ as your savior. Would love to hear someone ask one of these evangelical leaders supporting Trump that stuff. 3/

What is Pruitt doing that any other republican can't or won't do? How difficult is it to cut regulations? Pruitt brings nothing special to the table and will be a huge liability if he is still in place by midterms. The democratic ads will write themselves.
-
Like trump Pruitt appears to have an absolute lack of shame or any sense of ethics. The next person might have a modicum of self respect and therefore the oil/gas lobbyists risk 100% success w 85% and therefore will ride him to the end
