At the micro level you are absolutely correct. At the macro level, people respond to incentives. If we want to shape a culture of civil discourse, there’s a social contract aspect to this.https://twitter.com/nm86405957/status/979920606786473984 …

When people are truly apologetic, they don't need an incentive.

When people are decent they don’t attack 17 year old shooting survivors. Laura Ingraham has shaped her career on being uncivil. She deserves nothing but contempt.

The social contract that Trump refused to sign when he ran for president and ripped up when he became the president?

As Hogg pointed out, LI only commented after advertisers pulled their ads, if Hogg hadn't said anything, she still would be ripping in to him.

...1)do we really want to sign up for an incentive structure where corporations/corporate sponsors are deciding what speech is acceptable? and 2) are we also not simply incentivizing people to make insincere apologies and/or conform to what's pc? 2/2

mr. lewis, i commend you on drawing attention to the incentive structure so as to better take account of unintended consequences, but there's several i think you're not mentioning which include...1/2

Not to mention that 1) the whole point of the advertiser pressure is to force an apology, and 2) non-acceptance moves the goal posts by making additional demands. Main point is that there is value even in insincere apologies and even those should be encouraged.

It’s also Ingraham’s past as a not good person that is playing into this. This incident wasn’t in a vacuum with her
