I'd argue that the right has been effective in moving the Overton Window further to the extremes while the left tends to begin negotiations from the middle. I suspect one lesson for the left is to start pushing the Overton Window further out, too. Your thoughts on that theory?

I think that strategy makes a certain amount of strategic sense—which is another reason the incentives are all toward polarization.

How about the “incentive” of our Democratic Republic? Is our common ideals, values and society of a nation of laws, pursuit of happiness and freedom and democracy worth so little? We need a re-education of the of the Enlightenment that gave birth to the experiment of America.

Filling that "void" is squaring the circle. An amendment to decimate (literally) the bill of rights can't pass. Demographics won't change that until many generations have passed over the Earth. That's why they never propose it.

@MrMediaTraining Not sure I get this take, at this time. The Everytown + March for Our Lives, with modest goals, is going gangbusters. Their moderation is working. -
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 15,549 gun deaths in the U.S. in 2017, excluding most suicides. Honest question: If Brady is successful in their 3-point plan (below), how much lower do you think that number would drop?pic.twitter.com/weIBi8AsAr

Wait, what does this have to do with fundraising off of repealing 2A? (Also, I don't think Brady Campaign is the leading voice on the issue anymore, by a long shot.)
-
I am positing that many people are frustrated with what they see as overly modest goals, opening the door to a group that is more aggressive in their stance and policy prescriptions.
-
It also seems compatible with the history of social change that a more pragmatic and more extreme group would both work toward similar aims but different end points (e.g. The Nature Conservancy and Greenpeace).
-
Yes, this is true. Most movements have wings that work in tension/collaboration. But I can't think of another issue where one wing likely sparks a buying spree of weaponry.
-
BTW, I've followed you for years and dig your show. Keep up your advocacy and good work.

Thank you. Same back at you!

The majority of the people who marched think in terms of tweaking 2A, not repealing it. Most who marched STILL don't understand the difference between an 'assault weapon' and a hunting rifle but still don't want 2A repealed.

I think "Reform 2A" could get some traction. . . but of course the NRA will paint them as "Repeal 2A" even if all they want is to ban bump stocks or something. It's not just that moderation has few benefits; it's that being seen as a moderate -even if you are one- is impossible.
