I’m not speaking here about what *should* be. Im speaking as a political analyst about what *is.* And the fact that Trump’s credibility was never based on his being a decent or virtuous human being means he can’t easily disappoint his supporters with a moral failing.https://twitter.com/timothyfraser14/status/977302346874179585 …

What bothers people like me is not that we are surprised by Trump, but all the higher than mighty Republicans don’t at least criticize. Instead we read “nothing to see here”.

Let’s say there were 5 more similar allegations next week. Trump would probably still hover between 35-42%

To paraphrase the Eagles, he can’t let us down because we’re already standing on the ground. (Or, if you prefer, there’s a poem called “The Snake” that makes a related point.)

Trump is who he is, fair enough. What *is* disappointing is that even now, >30% of the population (& a ridiculous % of Republicans) turn an absolutely hypocritical blind eye to his actions. I never expected him to be decent or virtuous. But I did expect more Americans to be.

True, but I’ve had a couple years now to grapple with this.

So, if most people, even supporters, accept that Trump is basically morally & ethically bankrupt, if they look at his lies & incompetence in terms of leading the country to a better place, what will it take for them to get to the point where they say he isn't good enough?

As a 'political analyst' does it motivate u to investigate the psychology of people who paraded around as 'values voters' & 'religious & social conservatives' suddenly in thrall to a man who seems not to care for any morality or decency.

It means that the Republican party is far removed from the sense of morality, @mattklewis . If that is what *is* then this logically follows.

Good. You Republicans during the 90s were such shitheads to the Clintons when it came to their moral failings, it's why Bill Clinton went unscathed in polling and why you have Trump now. I didn't GAF about Clinton's affair (& that was IN the WH) and IDGAF about Trump's affairs.
