Jeff Flake running for president probably won't help--and might hurt--the #NeverTrump cause. Here's how we take back the movement for Reagan conservatives. It's a long game... http://thebea.st/2Gqoz48?source=twitter&via=desktop … via @thedailybeast

Look, I wrote a whole book criticizing Trump-ism from the right. We need more opinion leaders to do that--& more GOP politicians willing to stop him when he overreaches. But you don't win the presidency by virtue signaling or (perceived) bed-wetting.

This movement needs a name. #NeverTrump is a negative term. Same with the "Resistance"--which also has it's own baggage. "Reagan conservative" hearkens to the past. "Classical liberal" has a specific meaning that doesn't necessarily apply to everyone in this rubric....

Jeff Flake couldn't have even been re-elected in Arizona as a Senator. The notion that he thinks he could be POTUS is the height of Never Trumping delusion

Remember how the GOP flooded the field with primary candidates so nobody would get a majority? The plan was to scoop up all the loose primary votes & hand it to Jeb. But Trump happened

Barring some sort of unforeseen disaster in the next 2 years, any Republican thinking they can take on Trump is just being foolish. They will be crushed

The Republican goal is not to beat Trump, but to make sure he doesn't win. There's a difference.

How about #WeThePeople? It represents the fact that although we’re on all different areas of the Republican spectrum, we all agree on the need to get back to the founding principles of self determination & decentralized power

I’m not sure what we are saving, Matt. 90% of GOP (& RNC) has fallen in line w Trump’s policies & behavior. The Party of Lincoln (& Reagan/Bush) is dead - McConnell, Ryan & Priebus signed the death certificate.

If the Republicans to survive they need to address problems of today. Instead fighting past battles or things that doesn't affect 90% of the population like abortion. I understand that issue is important but it is not a kitchen table issue.

Because this is almost 100% about personalities, & doesn't address issues or the preferences of the base, party donors, & its infotainment wing, this actually understates the problems the GOP faces.

No, it was near non-existant. We mirrored the dems. Now we set the agenda. We can turn the tide on open borders, crushing wars, open pay for play schemes, even giving weapons to gangs and lawlessness. It's a slow process but, Wheres the problem?
