I think Ben Sasse would have a pretty decent chance.

I think he's maybe the guy we turn to AFTER the fever breaks.
-
I really don’t want to see Trump win a 2nd term. Sasse would be the best. The Democrats will end up running someone like Kamala Harris. That’s a guaranteed Trump win.
-
Two words: Joe Biden
-
I think he could pull it off.
-
The Dems need a uniter, not a divider.
-
Someone made a good point earlier. Connor Lamb won because he ran as a representative of the voters of his district versus as a representative of a party.
-
Yes! He has a message, a brain, a functional heart, and ears that work.... It's a way forward

Matt, with all due respect, your GOP doesn't deserve to be pulled from the ashes of Trump until you figure out what produced him to begin with. Hint, his two initials are R. Leaving aside the whole superstructure of social issues which Never Trumpers tend to differ about ...
-
2/ ... your fundamental *base* ideology is small-government lassiez-faire economics. As long as you keep bashing the government, promising to dismantle large swaths of it, deregulating commerce and industry and telling people they're on their own, you're going to do two things:
-
3/ First, perpetuate the dire conditions that led so many working people to look for an alternative (to *your* establishment Republican policies) and second, to grease the skids for grifters and con artists who were the reasons commerce and industry was regulated to begin with.
-
4/ Forget Reagan. You're going to have to go back to *Eisenhower* again before the American people can trust you. You need to become a statist party dedicated to the common weal and be willing to accept and continue the policies of the opposition party, as Ike did the New Deal.
-
5/ Small-government Reagan conservatism, with Milton Friedman as its intellectual beacon, led directly to Donald Trump. Until you can accept and assimilate that hard truth, you're going to have to cope with quite a few more years in the wilderness.

Nor do we want a Republican to even attempt to save the Republicans from Trump 2020.
@POTUS@realDonaldTrump is giving the GOP a long overdue makeover for the 21st Century. First he MAGA, now he's going to Keep America Great. We must re-elect President TrumpThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It's not just trump, the Republican party has failed this country, Congress has failed to do it's duty. The GOP does not deserve to be saved, maybe, perhaps reinvented by those who chose to not stand with it's blatant hypocrisy. The rest need to be labeled as traitors.
-
They have allowed themselves to become enablers instead of legislators.

The democrats are going to blow their golden opportunity by pushing forward a candidate who is closer to the far left than the center. This will give the Center right Republicans pause and force them to vote Trump because he is a better option (to them) than a far left candidate
-
I believe you are right. I keep hearing Kamala Harris & Warren. I don’t think either could win.

Love Springsteen but can you "real" conservatives stop pretending Trump doesn't represent you. He represents evangelicals (most ironic designation in history), supply siders, anti abortion rights, NRA, immigration hard liners. Pretty much your party. He is Mitt w worse hair.
