Yep. And it seems to be to be problematic that the incentives don’t just punish civil behavior, they also punish smart strategic behavior.

True, although two years is a political eternity and so much can happen between now and then. One thing to ponder is the role, if any, disaffected Republicans and independents might play in the Dem primaries.
