Here's my take on the combination of reforms that would actually prevent school shootings. Hardening school security should be merely one part of a multi-pronged approach.https://www.thedailybeast.com/if-he-wanted-to-trump-could-actually-solve-the-gun-problem?ref=author …

Ok. Good. Now Trump is talking about background checks and mental illness. Much better than solely talking about school security (which I support).

You are absolutely correct, but don't be sidetracked! Trump is well aware that arming teachers is an absurdity, but it allows him to successfully steer the conversation away from actual gun reform -- and we're falling for it.
-
Yeah, I question the analysis of anyone who can't immediately recognize this.

So what's the answer?
-
As pointed out by
@TheAuburner the most deadly school shooting in Alabama was carried out by an armed teacher.#alpolitics -
What was the case?
-
Amy Bishop professor at Alabama Huntsville
-
Oh, right. I remember that case. Of course, having a rule against armed teachers didn't stop her, did it?

Teachers shouldn't be forced to bear arms, but teachers who are willing, are trained in gun use, should be allowed.
-
Trained in gun use and trained in high-pressure situations with an active shooter that looks just like a student are not the same thing.
-
The notion that I must be a Navy SEAL before I’m allowed to protect myself with a firearm is ridiculous on its face. I should be allowed to protect myself whether I’m have training or not.
-
That's the thing: it's not about you. It's about the kids.
-
So it IS about adults too. Two of them were killed in Florida trying to protect the students without any means to do so effectively. I don’t understand why this is preferred to giving those teachers the option to have the tools to be effective.
-
I'd rather die protecting my kids than accidentally shoot one of them in a panic during an active shooter situation. I'd rather die than forget to lock it up one time and having a kid grab it. I'd rather die than have a coworker with unknown mental issues use it in a rage.
-
These are all things that haven’t happened. Kids and teachers killed while defenseless has.
#dosomething, right? -
And the armed guard? The defenseless teachers saved lives, the guy with the gun didn't.

That’s simply not true. He spent time also talking about fixing background checks

Well for starters, it doesn’t have a chance of passing... he clearly hasn’t figured that part out yet.

You support school security or arming teachers? Those are not the same.
