In the abstract, I hate the idea of arming teachers. It’s symbolically troubling, & potentially opens the door to accidents. But if I heard my kid’s school was on lockdown, & they were hiding in a classroom closet, it would suddenly sound better. This is to say, I’m open to it.

He didn’t get a raw deal. Even floating the idea that those same teachers get bonuses just shows how absurd and ill thought out his plan is. Absurd.

Do you think the UK would be better off introducing American style gun laws?
-
You don't even have gun rights......
-
They the uk have went so far down the rabbit hole that they arrest their citizens for mean facebook post.
-
Orwell knew where Britain was headed. It will only get worse.

UK is a lost cause I'm sorry to say. #1 baby name in London is currently Muhammad. And not a shot was fired.
-
Oh there was plenty of shots fired. The people had nothing to fire back with......

There just seems to be way too many obvious danger points. I think we need a lot more data and research to truly have a reasonable discussion. Someone could pass target shooting but does that prepare someone for an active shooter in a situation with hundreds of panicked students
-
I also don’t think we have heard enough from LEOs and teachers themselves about this. I just can’t understand why more people aren’t discussing the fact that we haven’t had govt funded research in 20yrs.

The key would be to put more veterans in the school systems as teachers. And weed out the leftist gun hating liberals..

if trained SO can't find it in himself to actively engage the shooter what makes you think a teacher will.

Well, if he had ever bothered to master the English language, perhaps he’d be able to float ideas in a bit more nuanced way.

Better, more effective ideas are getting the raw deal. Even if you don't object, it's unlikely to be implemented at any meaningful scale & It's taking oxygen from strategies far more likely to prevent/lower lethality of mass shootings at schools, work, concerts, malls, homes, etc

You should ask a cop first or someone else who was involved in a gunfight one on one in a crowded enviroment. It is freaking hard even with monthly training.ItS not like a movie!

@mattklewis do you really think that when bullets start flying around a school, that it's a good idea to add MORE bullets flying around before law enforcement arrives to add even more bullets to the equation? That sounds safe to you? -
2/ Setting that aside, how to answer these questions? 1) who pays for the initial training of teachers and how long will it be? 2) who pays for the recertification? 3) who pays for the gun and ammunition, as well as the time need to practice the skills?

The only teachers willing to carry guns are exactly those people you don’t want to be carrying guns
-
Yet you are allowing them to teach your kids...... HTF does that make sense.

Teachers would be subject to lawsuits, for shooting, or not shooting. Teachers could be criminally charged with manslaughter or murder when they hit the wrong kid. They're not cops, and wouldn't have the same legal protections when they kill.
-
Then give it to them.
