In the abstract, I hate the idea of arming teachers. It’s symbolically troubling, & potentially opens the door to accidents. But if I heard my kid’s school was on lockdown, & they were hiding in a classroom closet, it would suddenly sound better. This is to say, I’m open to it.

The key here would be that this would be voluntary—and would require special training and licensing. And, of course, this wouldn’t be the only “fix,” just the last line of defense. I think Trump has gotten a bit of a raw deal on floating this idea.

Why does it have to reach the point that a mass shooting is even possible? If it gets there, it’s already too late and the problem has not been addressed.

Agree. This would be the absolute last line of defense. There should be overlapping reforms.

The NRA has worked hard to create the dystopian conditions that would open your mind to such an abomination.

It's time to repeal and replace #2A. The NRA had succeeded in making the amendment a sucide pact for the nation.

Replace it with what? The @browardsheriff tipline number? That worked out great!

I know the focus is on schools right now....but what about theatres, churches, concerts, malls? We could move closer to solving those by banning assault weapons....not arming more people.

The "good guy with a gun" hired to protect the Parkland students his outside and never confronted the shooter. Why would untrained amateurs be better?

The whole idea is chum in the water to distract from real changes to law that could make a difference: 1 closing the gun show loophole 2 improved background checks

How about stopping these horrors from happening by banning ar-15's and making requirements for gun ownership like cars - instruction, testing, registration, insurance, renewals, medical requirements, etc. Arming teachers is ludicrous. More guns is not a solution.

it will just take one teacher to draw on a attitudinal student or one teacher’s weapon to be stolen and used in school for you to realize how dumb this idea

Gun owners are being asked to forfeit their rights by the very people who have proven themselves incapable of protecting gun owners’ children. The NRA gets heckled while law enforcement lectures the public - without revealing their armed deputy was hunkered-down at the site.
