NRA talking point #2 (we'll hear this a lot in future weeks): "Our banks, our airports, our NBA games, our NFL games, our office buildings, our movie stars, our politicians, they're all more protected than our children at school. Does that make any sense to anybody?" (LaPierre)

Not quite sure that it’s valid. None of those things happen every day over the course of 8 months. Sports arenas are screening tens of thousands of people, it makes sense for the extra screening. A public school though?

In my mind, it should be more like entering a museum or a federal building. That's how I envision it. (Remember, though, this would be just one precaution of a multi-pronged approach.)

The challenge behind that, I suppose, is that there's way more public schools than there are federal buildings or museums. (That money has to come from somewhere.)

Actually, bank security in 2018 is largely geared towards technology ... armed guards at banks are very, very rare. Sports stadiums have unarmed guards and armed police officers for major events. Airports have police officers. See a pattern here?

Banks don't arm tellers, airports don't arm the ticket agent, and stadiums don't arm the concession stand worker.

So he supports gun free zones at banks, airports, sports games now? Doesn't seem "valid."

Those locations & people are all much less safe / protected in the US due to our gun laws than pretty much anywhere else on earth except maybe active conflict zones... let's not kid ourselves about our "safety" anywhere

Who's going to pay for these armed guards in schools? They can't afford to pay teachers. Maybe NRA???

If you believe in a police state, then yes. However I’d prefer to live in a gun free non police state where with rare exception there are no armed guards.
